Those people are out there but hard to find. There have been male and female whores forever. But what has changed is the introduction of the internet, reality TV, and the widespread availability of porn. Anyone can look through a dating site like a catalog with endless potential matches and anyone can become hooked on porn and have a skewed view of how to connect with another person. Add in idiot reality shows where the participants are encouraged to be vapid and stupid and you have the reason many people are they way they are. I think most people, even on here, are more conservative than they admit, but the vast media culture hooks them into thinking they have to be a certain way.

Do you have any idea what a boon it is to the quality of life of an average woman -or man- that we're allowed to defer marriage and parent hood? You can't possibly know any real couples married with kids. It's fucking MISERABLE. It's NOT the insurance against and pain and lonelyness that fools seem to think it is, it's often quite the opposite. Its a GOOD thing that I wasn't married off and knocked up between the ages 13 and 18 like I would have been in the "good old days". What about that doesn't make sense?

I agree with @sp. But I think the @op is referring more to how people behave and treat each other. Getting back to @sp, someone once said that they never knew what loneliness was until they got married. And I am glad that not being marriage has become a more viable option. Whether this is 1920 or 50 or 2013 there are many people who should never be married because they simply cannot compromise in a committed, legal situation. Doesn't make them bad people but just the way they are.

Why is it women's job to put family first? Why do men get to continue to enjoy all the benefits of fatherhood without any of the work and responsibility that comes with it? Do you assume that only men have meaningful contributions to make outside the home and only women have meaningful contributions to make inside the home? Why not start looking around you in real everyday life instead of spending all your time with people who go out of their way to reinforce such antiquated, uninformed opinions about the way people never were in the first place?

Anyone who believes the old standard of fathers getting special privileges because they are male are not paying attention to the society as it is now. Breadwinning is a shared responsibility, along with all of the other parenting duties for a majority of married couples. While this is a good conversation to have, in order to be relevant, the facts need to be current.
