I've lived on Vancouver island and in the okangan, and other than some smug hippies, have met mostly nice people. Maybe it's a big city problem.

Whatever you do, avoid Halifax. It's worse than Toronto. Full of smug, rude hipsters. Really cold town that pretends to be friendly for the tourist $$$. Just awful.

I'm female, living in Toronto and just wish people were easier to talk to here. It's really hard to meet people outside your social group in this city - i think everyone is afraid of being rejected all the time.
