But we have two kids (one of them special-needs) and somehow my sexuality seems less "important" than their well-being, we are a strong family unit in spite of it. I'm sorry, for both of us :(

Sounds like there's room to either do some work on the marriage, or get permission to have a play partner. And don't forget to take care of the caregiver!
