I thought I did, but it was actually an illusion. Since I realised that it is not possible all I have done for others is offered advice, support and encouragement, and this was only when I felt they were ready to hear it. Then if they chose to take it they saved themselves. But it takes the individual and their will to do it. I've been told I've changed peoples lives for the better, but I've told them they did it themselves and I am really proud of all they have done and achieved.

Well you made a choice to be present in that persons life, you made a choice to make your advice, encouragement and support available. You did something tremendous, and consequently people have lauded you because they recognized, after the fact, that what you did WAS significant. People do have to make their own choices to help themselves. You can't force anybody to change their own lives, so its an illusion to think that there is some level of 'saving' in which that occurs. What you did was the most meaningful and complete definition of saving another person that exists. The illusion is thinking that anyone can really help themselves without any support, merely by force of will making a choice to change. When you're down, and you feel like you don't have a friend in the world, or a life to try and turn around - then you're doomed. Good people can make the choice to save others from feeling isolated, and that changes everything.
