Well, you could always go my route: have it beaten out of you (emotionally, anyway) by marrying someone who reminds you of him only to find out that he's an abusive psycho. Take that, nostalgia!

Depends how define "getting over". I am over my first love to the point where it doesn't effect my relationships now. I am over her to the point that I would not take her back if she walked back into my life. But I will always remember her. I will always love her.
