I don't know how old you are... but I'm in my 30s and I think the birthday thing is WAY out of line. We are adults, and shouldn't need birthday parties like little kids any more. If anything you want to forget that you're getting older or have a quiet celebration. Every weekend it's someone's adult baby birthday party and it's exhausting. I've gone to hundreds of them and my friends do nothing for mine. I'm done.

I am 33, and my entire adult life I have had one birthday party planned for me. My soon to be ex wife planned a 30th birthday for me. But I am a guy and those things tend to be less important to us, and I am not big on being the center of attention. But I consider myself to have great friends, even though they haven't done anything like that. Plan your own, and maybe communicate with your friends how important it is to you.
