Along the same lines as cjp, these fears are not irrational, but warranted and manageable. So have the adult conversation, get tested, use condoms, and if you want, take other precautions.

cjp and kia are right. Use a condom (and some other form of birth control), discuss STDs with your partner, and then go for it.
